What is the Poverty Simulation?
The Poverty Simulation is a unique, interactive experience that helps people begin to understand what life is like with a shortage of money and an abundance of stress. The Simulation involves 44-80 participants who take on the roles of members of 26 families, all facing a variety of challenging but typical circumstances such as homelessness, job loss and child care issues.
How long does the Simulation last?
This activity lasts from two and a half to three hours. It includes an introduction, and briefing by facilitators, the simulation exercise, and a debriefing where participants share what they have learned through the experience.
Where and when will the Simulation take place?
The Simulation will take place on Saturday, March 3 at 9:00 a.m. in the Urbandale High School Media Center (7111 Aurora Avenue, Urbandale).
Who can participate?
Anyone who has an interest in understanding poverty and being part of the solution is invited to attend.
How do I sign up?

Receive Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instructional Technology from ISU
The Iowa State University Department of Curriculum and Instruction will be admitting new students to the Online Master of Education with a specialization in Curriculum and Instructional Technology program in Summer 2012.
This program offers an opportunity for classroom teachers and technology coordinators to gain further expertise in the use of technology in the classroom. Both the Iowa Core Curriculum and the increased number of 1 to 1 laptop initiatives in Iowa increase the need for teacher leaders in the area of technology and the ISU program provides an excellent opportunity for teachers to develop both technology and leadership skills.
This online M.Ed. program is offered in a learning community environment and makes use of distance technologies to allow Iowa teachers to earn a Master's degree by taking courses online. The program maintains the same rigorous academics and high standards for excellence as the on-campus graduate program.
The admission process is competitive and limited to practicing teachers, technology coordinators and other educators who are interested in taking a leadership role in technology use in schools. Application deadline is March 30, 2012.

New Hampton Community Schools Seeking New Leadership
Due to a retirement, the New Hampton school board is recruiting a new superintendent to begin July 1, 2012.
