AAPI Organizations in Central Iowa Announce Second Annual Essay Contest in Conjunction with 2023 Heritage Month Celebration

The AAPI organizations in central Iowa are excited to announce their second annual essay contest in conjunction with the AAPI Heritage Celebration to be held in May 2023. All students attending Iowa's elementary, middle and high schools and colleges are eligible to participate, regardless of ethnicity, race or nationality. Application Deadline for the Spring 2023 Innovator Competition Has Been Extended to May 1

Pitch an idea for a business or product and compete for cash prizes.

The Jacobson Institute sponsors the Innovator Competition to encourage innovation and entrepreneurial thinking in the next generation. This investment in the future provides high school innovators, inventors and entrepreneurs with financial support and feedback from successful entrepreneurs and business leaders. Winners are awarded a combined total of $3,000 in seed capital to take their idea, invention or operating business to the next level.

The competition is for ANY high school student in grades 9-12. Students don't need a background or coursework in business to compete. They just need motivation, passion and a good idea!

Department of Education Personnel Switch From Landline to Cell Phone, Check Directories for Current Contact Information

Last fall, several Iowa Department of Education personnel shifted from using a landline and a cellphone to relying solely on a cell phone. For the past six months, callers who used the landline number were provided with the corresponding cell phone number of the staff member they were trying to reach. However, this message service has now expired, and any calls made to DE staff using the landline will not be answered or receive a message. For the most up-to-date contact information of Department of Education staff, refer to the DE’s customer service guide or the alphabetical listing.
