If you’ve been waiting for the right time to get your Paraeducator Generalist Certification, this summer is your opportunity. You must complete three core courses to apply for your certificate through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.
Course I: Foundations

Quick Requirements:
- Must be 18+ with a HS diploma/GED
- Must be employed by or subbing in an Iowa district (or have an Iowa teacher/admin mentor)
- Must have computer/internet access

- Paraeducator Generalist Certification Program - Course I Introduction/Foundation (Choose a session with start date of May 19 or June 2)
- Paraeducator Generalist Certification Program - Course II Instructional Support (Choose a session with start date of June 30 or July 7)
- Paraeducator Generalist Certification Program - Course III Behavioral Supports (Choose a session with start date of Aug. 4 or Aug. 11)

Heartland AEA is offering the Paraeducator Generalist certification courses this summer. To apply for the Paraeducator Generalist Certificate through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, participants must complete three required courses:
- Course I: Foundations (strongly recommended to take first)
- Course II
- Course III
Each course costs $120, for a total of $360. Courses include required live Zoom sessions along with additional online coursework that can be completed on your schedule.
These courses are a great opportunity to strengthen your knowledge, build confidence in your role, and earn a recognized credential that supports student success.
