As you’re aware, Iowa’s Area Education Agencies are subsidizing costs for districts to upgrade their DE provided FastBridge (FAST) subscriptions to include additional functionality in the areas of mathematics and behavior. Your district indicated its interest in participating in a pilot of this subscription program, beginning in Spring 2018.
Iowa’s AEA system has had many requests to produce FastBridge Math materials that include K-1 EarlyMath student materials and CBMMath Process student materials and teacher forms for grades 2-6. Grant Wood AEA has agreed to handle all the printing and shipping of these materials. Progress Monitoring student materials will be available in late summer.
If your school or district is interested in these materials, you may place an order using this order form. Please complete the top section, select the items and quantities needed and place the order using one of the methods listed at the bottom of the form. Orders will be shipped to you through FedEx.

FastBridge Learning 2018-19
Through an agreement with FastBridge Learning, districts will now be able to access the full FastBridge suite of resources for mathematics and behavior assessment, reporting and analysis, and will include additional aspects of literacy that were not available through the current module. Districts that sign up for 2018-19, will have access to the system for spring screening in 2018 for free. The next step is to develop a training plan for the AEA system.
AEA Prep
Iowa’s AEAs have created a statewide partnership and resource center to improve postsecondary readiness and education attainment. This newly established entity is AEA PREP (Postsecondary Readiness & Equity Partnership), and will focus on building equitable capacity throughout Iowa, across the AEAs and schools. AEA PREP operates out of Mississippi Bend AEA in Bettendorf and is being coordinated by David Ford.
2018 Legislative Advocacy Event
Mark your calendar for the Joint AEA Legislative Advocacy Event to be held on Jan. 30-31, 2018 at Prairie Meadows. The inaugural event hosted by Iowa’s AEAs in 2017 drew over 200 school administrators from across Iowa. The 2018 event begins with an update from members of the education lobby and preparation for conversations with legislators that will take place the following morning. The Iowa Department of Education is transitioning to a new statewide data system for K-6 literacy through FASTBridge Learning. To help school districts with this transition, comprehensive training via webinars and regional face-to-face meetings are being offered now through the end of October. These training slots are limited and information needed to register for the training is being distributed to district participants by their principals or superintendents.
Here are a few key answers to recent questions the DE has received about the training and the transition:
- The DE has the capacity to train a few people from each school or district, and the expectation is that the people who receive training will use the available resources to help train others in their building.
- The DE is still considering how to collect screening data from schools not using the FAST system.
- The screening windows for 2017-2018 for all schools (other than the three Iowa year-round schools) are defined by the IDOE and shall not be changed by the district:
Fall: Sept. 11 to Oct. 6
Winter: Jan. 15 to Feb. 9
Spring: April 23 to May 18
The Department will provide ongoing communication and support throughout this important transition. District staff who are interested in more frequent updates can sign up to receive regular Early Warning System email updates.
