Join the 2023 Global Education Institute for Teachers and Learn How to Integrate Social Justice in Your Curriculum with Global Perspectives

Global Education Institute for Teachers
The 2023 Global Education Institute for Teachers: Global Perspectives on Social Justice, will be held June 8-29, 2023 in a hybrid format. The institute is organized by the Global Education Program at the Stanley Center and University of Iowa International Programs and presented by the UI Stanley Museum of Art and College of Education.

K-12 teachers of all disciplines are invited to attend the institute and earn one license renewal credit. Join the institute co-directors and special guests to discuss how to apply global perspectives to social justice throughout the curriculum.

Mandatory live Zoom sessions will be Thursdays (June 15, 22, 29) from 9 - 10:30 a.m. and other sessions (small-group discussions, videos, office hours, etc.) will be throughout the month. There will be one day of in-person sessions on June 8 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on the UI campus in the new Stanley Museum of Art building.

FREE tuition and course materials for everyone! FREE housing to attend in person!

Application deadline is May 4, 2023.
*Registration is limited to teachers that have not participated in the last three years.

2021 Global Education Institute for K-12 Teachers: Global Perspectives on Social Justice, Coming in June

The 2021 Global Education Institute for Teachers: Global Perspectives on Social Justice, will be held virtually on June 7-28, 2021. The institute is organized by the Global Education Program at the Stanley Center and the University of Iowa International Programs and presented by the UI Stanley Museum of Art and College of Education.

K-12 teachers of all disciplines are invited to attend this year’s virtual institute, a month-long, one license renewal credit experience taught by University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art curators Kimberly Datchuk and Brady Plunger and UI College of Education’s, Will Coghill-Behrends.

There will be mandatory live sessions every Monday from 9-10:30 a.m. and many other sessions (small-group discussions, videos, office hours, etc.) throughout the month.

FREE tuition and course materials for everyone!

Registration deadline is May 1, 2021.

*Priority preference will be given to teachers who have not participated before.

K-12 teachers of all disciplines are invited to attend this year’s institute, a two-day, one license renewal credit experience taught by University of Iowa professors Greg Hamot and Jason Harshman.

FREE tuition! The first 20 teachers to register who live outside a 25-mile radius of Iowa City will also receive FREE housing at the Iowa House Hotel. Registration deadline is Nov. 12, 2018. Global Education Institute for Teachers is Coming Dec. 2-3

Each year, the University of Iowa’s International Programs, in partnership with the Stanley Foundation, offers a professional development workshop for Iowa's K-12 teachers focusing on international topics and issues of critical importance. Over the years, institute themes have included Fragile Economies; Understanding Nigeria; Understanding the Middle East; The US/Mexico Border and Immigration Policies; and Terrorism and Mass Media.

Inspired by the introduction of the Iowa Core Curriculum and its focus on global literacy concepts and 21st century skills, the institute has turned its attention to global education, with a goal of preparing teachers from across the state to infuse global perspectives into their classrooms.

Free Tuition & Housing Available for Teachers at Global Education Institute

The 2016 Global Education Institute for teachers will be held on the University of Iowa campus, Dec. 10-11, 2016. Forty middle, junior and high school teachers will be selected to attend this year's institute and will receive free tuition. The first 20 teachers to register who live outside a 25-mile radius of Iowa City will receive free housing. Sponsored by the Stanley Foundation and UI International Programs, the institute provides 1 license renewal credit for participants.

Apply by Oct. 30, 2016. Application forms are available on the Institute's website.
