Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has announced the STEM Education + Workplace Partnerships - Governor's 2019 Future Ready Iowa Summit on April 30. Leaders from business and industry, education, nonprofits, elected officials, students and others from across Iowa will come together at one event. The day is dedicated to Iowa’s future workforce in today’s classrooms, and the ways that employers and educators are working together to assure a strong talent pipeline tomorrow. Featured will be keynotes, panelists and presenters from rural and urban, businesses large and small, big city and small-town schools, and more, who are partnering to guarantee a strong employee pipeline. Gov. Reynolds will also announce the six recipients of Iowa STEM’s Computer Science is Elementary award during the event. The Heartland Administrators' Association (HAA) meeting on April 3 will be a business only meeting from 8:00 - 8:45 a.m. with partnership updates only. The main program will be attending the Future Ready Iowa Summit, which starts at 9:15 a.m. Both events will be held at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center, located in downtown Des Moines at 730 Third Street.
Complimentary parking will be available for our group on the north side of Crocker Street, across the street from the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center of the Iowa Events Center in the north parking lot. Tell the parking attendant that you are with the Governor's Future Ready Iowa Summit to ensure you are able to park at no cost.

The Governor’s STEM Advisory Council, which is hosting the summit, is inviting leaders from business and industry preK-12 and postsecondary education, nonprofits, parents, students, elected officials and others, who will take information from the summit back to their communities to build upon existing initiatives.
Speakers include:

- Brandon Busteed, Gallup's Executive Director of Education and Workforce Development
- Hadi Partovi, CEO of Code.org
- Jeff Weld, Senior Policy Advisor for STEM education at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy
- Jemar Lee, a College Community School District senior and co-founder of EdRevision
- Nicole Smith, Chief Economist at the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce
- Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, a computer science education pioneer

So how does Iowa create a workforce that’s prepared to take on the world? How do we assure that more students and workers have the career opportunities they deserve? The Governor’s 2016 Future Ready Iowa Summit presents ways to build on the work underway to close the skills gap.
In addition to superintendents Dan Cox, Paul Gausman and Dave Wilkerson discussing work-based learning, a number of students are serving on panels, and there is a student video contest.
